A 54-year-old farmer was severely injured in a bear attack at Karadhihalli in Arasikere Taluk in the district while he was working in a farmland last evening.


Police said today the victim Nagaraj was in the private farmland when he was attacked by the bear. After hearing the cries of the farmer, the fellow farmers working nearby came to his rescue and chased the bear away. He was hurt in the hands, legs and neck. Injured has been treating in Government Hospital of Arasikere. Banavara police registered a case.

Meanwhile, the villagers staged a protest holding the forest department officials responsible for the such attacks by wild animals.

Despite their several complaints, the department has not taken any measure to check the entry of wild animals into the village, even though bear and leopard attacks were occurring frequently.
