Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today greeted the people of Gujarat and Maharashtra on the occasion of foundation day of both the states.

While writing on social networking site Twitter, Mr Modi said, Greetings to people of Gujarat & Maharashtra on the foundation day of the 2 states, which started their development journey on May 1 1960.

"I pray that both Gujarat & Maharashtra scale new heights of development so that aspirations of the youth are fulfilled. People of Maharashtra & Gujarat share a very close bond & I hope this bond continues to grow in the years to come," he tweeted.

Further he wrote, "I salute the 6 crore people of Gujarat, without whose efforts the state would never have scaled these heights of progress. Congrats to them."

"On Gujarat Day we remember the sacrifices & contribution of all those great women & men without whom Gujarat would not have been created," he said.

Mr Modi also shared a song by bollywood music composer A R Rahman on the Twitter.

Gujarat state was separated from Maharashtra on May 1, 1960 on linguistic basis. Before that they were part of 'Bombay State.'
