BJP rejects Pak Army chief 'jugular vein' comments on Kashmir
Condemning the ''provocative and aggressive'' comments made by its Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Kashmir, the BJP said Islamabad should focus on building a ''peaceful Pakistan.''
Addressing a ceremony to mark the Martyrs' Day at Army headquarters in Rawalpindi yesterday, Gen Sharif had termed Kashmir a 'jugular vein' of Pakistan.
BJP national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told a news conference here, '' The BJP condemns the provocative and aggressive comments made by the Pakistan Army chief.''
Jammu and Kashmir, she said, is an integral part of India.
''An unanimous resolution of the Indian parliament has stated in no uncertain words that the entire Jammu and Kashmir, inclusive of those parts which are under illegal occupation by Pakistan, belong to India,'' the BJP spokesperson said.
The elected civilian government of Pakistan should ensure that it focuses its attention on building a peaceful nation and not allow its army to pose threat and issue alarm calls against peace in the region, she added.
