Chandrababu vote invalidated by EC, TDP protests
The Election Commission today took strong exception and held the vote of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu as invalid after he declared that he had voted for the BJP and performed his alliance dharma .
'Naidu vote will be held invalid under Rule 39 of the Conduction of Election rules of 1961 ' the state Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal told reporters .
A virtual drama was enacted by irate TDP leaders who gate crashed into the CEO's chambers this evening protesting against the election commissions holding Chandrababu Naidu's vote invalid. .
'Under what rule position you told the media ?; the TDP leader T D Janardhan shouted . Bhanwar Lal told the aggrieved TDP leaders to approach ECI if they felt otherwise .
TDP chief who voted at the Jubilee hills polling booth stood in queue while his family members were allowed to vote out of turn in view of security reasons.
Later displaying his inked right fore finger Chandrababu Naidu announced that he had voted for the BJP as part of his alliance dharma.
The election commission took strong exception to his statement and said he had violated the code of conduct. The Returning Officer of Jubilee Hills has been directed to conduct an inquiry and report ' said state Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar lal.
Meanwhile, criticising Chandrababu Naidu for announcing that he cast his vote for BJP outside the polling booth, YSR Congress party Spokesman Gattu Ramachandra Rao said this behaviour of Naidu only showed his pitiable condition in the elections.
'Naidu has no vote in the constituency where he is contesting and has no seat where he cast his vote,' he said, adding that Naidu has violated constitution by making that announcement. 'It also reveals his frustration.'
Similarly the polling first phase polling also witnessed another VVIP vote fracas when the union minister and congress leader Chinrajeevi directly walking into the Polling station at Jubilee hills was stopped by a voter .
'Don't' you think you should stand in the queue? Is it right?' the man demanded to know.
He was identified later as Karthikeyan, an IT techie . An embarrassed Chiranjeevi tried to argue, but when the man stood his ground the Union minister grudgingly, but smiling, went back and stood in the queue.
He tried to look cheerful but none in the polling station including officials tried to come to rescue Chiranjeevi and though he tried to look cheerful anger was evident on his and his family members face.
Pawan Kalyan the Jana sena party founder and controversial brother of Chiranjeevi also came to vote .
Unlike his brother he cooly mingled with the crowd , posed for their mobile photos, even shook hands with elders and voted in turn .
Junior NTR who came with his wife and mother waited patiently in the long queue waiting for his turn to cast his vote.
Actor Nagarjuna and wife Amala came early and stood along with the others and cast their vote only when their turn came.
The couple mingled with the voters freely and even posed for photographs with families which wanted to get their picture clicked with them.
Other film personalities including Nandamuri Balakrishna, Daggubati Rama Naidu, D Suresh Babu and C Narayana Reddy also cast their votes.
In yet another incident that confirmed the huge money play in AP elections, police seized a vehicle belonging to former state minister and Telangana Congress Committee President Uttam Kumar Reddy which huge cash of 2.5 crore at Suryapaet in Nalgonda district.
To brow beat the poll checks, the cash was kept in a bag below the engine bonnet of the ministers Innova car . ' While some Rs.1000 note bundles were safe, the heat of the engine had burnt and damaged most of the currency notes ' said the Suryapet police.
The state has reported a huge cash seizure of nearly Rs.190 crore in cash so far.
