An estimated 75 per cent of the 2.81-odd crore electorate exercised their rights to vote as peaceful polling in 17 Lok sabha and 119 assembly constituencies in Telangana ended at 1800 hrs, this evening.

Barring minor incidents, the polling passed off peacefully even in the Maoists threat areas of ten assembly constituencies, State Chief Electoral Officer Mr.Bhanwarl Lal said in a press conference here this evening.

The tentative percentages recorded at ten districts are Adilabad (78), Nizamabad (70), Karimnagar (76), Medak (77), Ranga Reddy (60), Hyderabad (53), Mahabubnagar (73), Nalgonda (81), Warangal (75) and Khammam (78), he said.

The final percentage will be available tomorrow as the polling still continued at some polling stations in Telangana, he said.

Voters turned up at polling booths in large numbers braving the scorching summer heat. Voter enthusiasm was more evident in rural than in urban areas. Hyderabad city recorded the lowest 53 per cent polling while the highest per cent of 81 per cent registered in Nalgonda district, he said.
