I-League Champs Bengaluru Football Club feted
The players and staff of Bengaluru Football Club (BFC), who won the prestigious I League Championship on debut, was felicitated by Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) here today.
BFC, a new entrant to the I League, created history in the country by winning the trophy in its maiden entry.
I-League Chairman A R Khaleel, congratulating the players, Coach Ashley Westwood, Captain Sunil Chhetri and supporting staff, lauding their achievement said, 'it is the best thing that has happened in the country's Football history. In the coming years the Club should march forward to win more and more national and international tournaments.'
He said that since the team has qualified for the Asian Cup Championship by virtue of winning the I league. But it now has more responsibility and work hard to prove their supremacy at the international level also.
Mr Khaleel said that the Bangalore Football stadium will be rebuilt by BFC owners Jindals and it will be built to the AFC standard. 'It is now certain that the Garden City Bangalore will host the U-17 World Cup matches in 2017 and the Stadium will be ready before six month of commencement of the matches.'
The Karnataka Government has agreed refurbish Sri Kanteerava Stadium as a stand-by for the World Cup matches, he added.
JSW Sports CEO Mustafa Ghouse, in his address, said it was a team work that saw a history was created by winning the National Championship in the very first entry into the I League. Next goal is making a mark in the Asian Federation Cup league, for which the team had qualified.
The team and members of BFC were felecitated with shall and distributing memento.
