Army personnel exercise their right to franchise
Armed Forces personnel and their eligible family members, residing in Secunderabad and other parts of Hyderabad have turned out in large numbers to exercise their right to franchise today to elect democratic representatives for Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assembly.
The Supreme Court in its order on March 24 this year had issued directions to the Election Commission of India to allow armed forces personnel to cast their vote as general voters in constituencies they reside.
The mood was upbeat as most of service voters feel the event as historic as they were getting chance to vote for the first time in the 'Democratic Festival' in their life as also at a juncture when bifurcation of state of Andhra Pradesh is under process.
Most of the service voters are listed as voters in their permanent home address to be able to cast their vote through postal ballot or by proxy voting.
However, to be able to vote in place of posting in a peace station is life time opportunity, they do not wish to miss.
