2 TNAU scientists awarded US Research Fellowship
Two scientists of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU have been awarded Raman Post Doctoral Research Fellowship for Indian Scholars in United States of America (USA) for 2014-15.
A varsity press release here said the two scientists, were Dr M Karthikeyan, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Pathology and Dr S Haripriya, Assistant Professor, Department of Nano Science and Technology,
The award comprises a financial support of US$ 3000 per month for a period of one year by University Grants Commission (UGC) to encourage young Indian scientists to interact with the American Academic/Scientific Community and gain first hand research expertise on the latest research developments in a global scenario.
Dr M Karthikeyan will work on the Molecular dissection of the regulation of fumonisin biosynthesis via functional genomics at the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Arkansas, USA. This research will provide structure for future efforts to develop genetic resistance and biological control alternatives for the pathogen Fusarium verticillioides in Sorghum and other Cereals.
Dr S Haripriya will work on the research topic entitled 'Supplements to therapeutics aided by better delivery technologies' at Texas AandM University, USA. The research will provide a strategy for developing 'combination drug' involving two or more bio-molecules of plant sources /drug-biomolecule combination through co-encapsulated nano delivery system.
The research will be helpful in treating patients with co-existing disease conditions like diabetes with arthritis or cancer with diabetes, which is currently becoming common in India, the varsity said.
