Chithirai fete of Meenakshi-Sundareswarar temple begins on May 1
The annual 'Chithirai Festival' also called as 'Chithirai Brahmotsavam' of world-renowned Sri Meenakshi-Sundareswearar Temple will commence on May 1.
Announcing this to media after reviewing the preparatory works for the grand festival, District Collector L Subramanian said the 12-day festivities will begin on May 1 with flag hoisting at the temple premises at 1036 hrs.
The famous 'Pattabhishekam' (Coronation) ceremony of Goddess Meenakshi will take place on May 8. The important event of 'Meenakshi Thirukkalyanam' (Celestial wedding of Goddess Meenakshi with Lord Sundareswarar) will be performed between the auspicious hours of 1030 hrs and 1054 hrs on May 10 and the Car festival will be held on the next day. The prominent event 'Lord Kallazhagar entering into Vaigai River' will be held on May 14.
All the events of Chithirai festival would be webcast live through www.maduraimeenakshi.org, the official website of the temple.
He said the district administration in coordination with police department had made elaborate arrangements for the festival. The Chithirai Brahmotsavam is considered as the biggest festival held during the auspicious Tamil month of 'Chithirai.'
Meanwhile, the temple administration has started advance booking facility for devotees to witness the celestial wedding event. Both online and offline booking are available for the devotees to register their names.
