No democracy in DMK: Alagiri
Suspended DMK leader MK Alagiri on Friday said there is no democracy in the party led by his father M Karunanidhi.
"There's no democracy in DMK. I suspect the DMK president has been blackmailed by somebody. I asked for justice for those suspended. The party has suspended me," Alagiri told NDTV.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo M Karunanidhi on Friday suspended his son and former Union Minister MK Alagiri from all posts of the party.
In a statement, the DMK said Alagiri was suspended for going against the party stand and for giving out statements in public which were contrary to party.
Earlier on Jan 11, Alagiri met Karunanidhi at the latter's residence at Gopalapuram in Chennai.
Before the meeting, Alagiri said he was visiting Karunanidhi to greet him on the occasion of Pongal and not to discuss the political tussle within the DMK.
"I spoke to my father not on political issues but family affairs. He asked me about his grandchildren who are presently in the US," Alagiri told reporters after the meeting.
This comes after Karunanidhi on Jan 9 suspended five supporters of Alagiri from the party.
However, on Jan 11, Alagiri said: "They were not my supporters."
Earlier, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had condemned Alagiri's remarks against Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant.
"I said I would be happy if there was an alliance between the DMK and the DMDK. Mr. Alagiri's remarks against my view are not only regrettable but also condemnable," Karunanidhi was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
In an interview to a channel, Alagiri had said he could not consider Vijayakant as a politician as the leader lacked political decency.
In a veiled warning to Alagiri, Karunanidhi also said 'disciplinary actions' will be taken against those party men who would be violating desirable conduct.
He said they would be removed from the party.
Karunanidhi's two sons - Alagiri and M K Stalin - have been against each other for long time and their relationships touched new low after Karunanidhi decided to appoint his younger son Stalin as his political heir.
