Repair work of dilapidated roads begin in Kashmir
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir took up repair work of roads, which got damaged due to harsh winters and heavy rainfall.
The roads and buildings department undertook the repair work in Srinagar providing much relief to the residents of the valley.
"The road repair work undertaken is a good initiative. There was heavy snowfall and rainfall in Kashmir this year which damaged roads and caused potholes that resulted in heavy traffic jams. Roads will be smooth now and we will experience no more traffic jams," said a resident, Basharat.
Machines were pressed into service under the supervision of engineers to level the roads. Filling of patches, formed during snow clearance, was also taken up in full swing.
Executive Engineer, Roads and Buildings, Division Second, Nasir Hussian Zargar, said the work was taken up on war footing.
"There were lot of stagnation and drainage problems on the roads and this year the winter was very harsh too, which damaged the BT (bituminous) surface of the roads. We took the initiative of repair work of roads on war footing, because people were facing a lot of problems and we started the work," said Zargar.
