Death convicted commits suicide in jail
A 35-year-old youth, who was convicted to death sentence on charges of sexual assault and murder of a minor girl, committed suicide by hanging in Central Jail here today.
Police said Jyotiba Maharaj committed suicide by hanging himself from a tap with a bath towel in the bathroom.
Jyotiba Maharaj was sentenced to death on charges of sexual assault and murder of a seven year-old girl in M Talwad village of Bhalki taluk of Bidar district two years back. The charge sheet said the accused had raped the victim, strangulated her to death and the body was thrown in a compost pit.
The Bidar District Session Court Judge awarded death sentence to Jyotiba for his crime on April 21,2014. The accused was also involved in a few criminal cases, including murder and robbery in the past.
