Widespread protest was reported in Karnataka by members of Dalit organisations against yoga guru Baba Ramdev, demanding his arrest and public apology for degrading the dignity of Dalit women by stating that AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited Dalit homes for picnic and honeymoon.

The agitators expressed anger by pelting stones at 'Patanjali Health Centre' at Tilakawadi area in Belgaum and burnt the yoga guru in effigy, demanding his immediate arrest and filing of a criminal case against him.

Journalist Gauri Lankesh, expressing her anguish over the statement, demanded open apology to the Dalit women.

Effigies of Ramdev were burnt at Davanagere by the agitators in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office, demanding his immediate arrest.

In the State Capital, flex banners of Ramdev were torn and then burnt.

However, the situation was stated to be peaceful in the state, according to Police Headquarters sources here.
