Dr A J V Prasad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizershas said that India is the largest consumer of polymers and coatings and the main users are the construction and automobile industry.


Participating at a two-day national symposium in Polymers & Coatings (NCPC-2014) organized by Polymers and functional materials Division and Materials Research Group of CSIR Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) here yesterday, Dr Prasad in his inaugural address envisaged to setup Green Chemistry centers in India to develop environmentally friendly technologies.

Dr Prasad also emphasised that India should change its R & D spending policies, which is very less when compared to China and other European countries.

He said polymer and paint industry should come forward and have more interactions and share their problems and views with R & D institutes like IICT and he assured that it will be fully supported by the Govt of India.

He also stressed that Research should help the country's economy and growth and researchers should utilise the resources and infrastructure made available to the scientists' in institutes like IICT.
