Nikshep to spearhead Indian challenge in Junior Davis Cup
Bubbling teenager B R Nikshep of Karnataka, who is the reigning National Under-16 boys singles champion, has been retained to represent the country in the Junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone tournament scheduled to be held at Kuching in Malaysia from April 28 to May 3.
Nikshep will spearhead Indian challenge as it's No.1 player in the event.
The other members of the team are Alex Solanki (Delhi) and Paramvir Singh Bajwa (Punjab).
Former National Player S Narendranath will be the coach of the team.
The 16-year old Nikshep, a second year PUC Student of the Surana College here, has won the under-16 and doubles events in Fenesta Junior Nationals held at Delhi in 2013.
He has won ITF junior doubles title, partnering Alex Solanki in November last year in Mumbai.
He had reached finals in doubles in ITF tournament held in Bangladesh and played in ITF events in Sri Lanka and Qatar and improved his ITF points. He now has 113.75 points.
Since 2011, Nikshep has represented India four times in international events in Doha, Malaysia, Philippines and the last year's Junior Davis Cup tie in South Korea.
Expressing happiness on being included in the team, he thanked his parents G K Ravikumar and Shobha B G, who are originally from Kadur in Chikmagalur.
He also made a special mention of DYSS, SAK, KSLTA and Go Sports Foundation and Actor and Mandya Lok Sabha member Ms Ramya for their encouragement and support, AITA sources here said.
