The 137th annual festival of Villianur Lourdes Shrine will be held from April 26 to May 4.


One of the oldest Churches in Puducherry, the festival attracts devotees from all over the region.

Father Richard Adigalar said the festivities will kick off with flag hoisting on the newly built mast.

Bishop Peter Abir from Kerala will lead the Eucharistic mass and the flag will be hoisted after that.

The mass will be held on all nine days and every day a car procession will be held.

On May 4, Archbishop Antony Anandarayar of Pondicherry and Cuddalore will lead the Eucharistic mass.

The car procession will be held on May 4 evening. A special crown made of diamonds will be adorned by the statue of Lourdes, which was made in 1877.

The Villianur Church here is the second in the world dedicated to Lourdes and first in the Asia and India.
