EVMs with votes polled in city taken to counting centre
The polled Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the three city constituencies Chennai South, Chennai North and Central Central, were taken to the counting Centres, where a three-tier security arrangements have been put in place.
A posse of 500 policemen would maintain round-the-clock vigil on the counting Centres till May 16.
After yesterday's single phase polling, the EVMs from all three Lok Sabha constituencies have been kept in strong rooms at various places in the city.
Those from South Chennai have been kept at Anna University, North Chennai at Queen Mary's College and Central Chennai at Loyola College.
CCTV cameras have been installed in these centres as part of security arrangements.
The strong rooms have been sealed and the centres have been provided with three-tier security.
According to senior police officials, 'in the first-tier, personnel from para military forces would maintain vigil. The second-tier will have guards from Tamil Nadu Armed Force led by an Assistant Commissioner, while in the third-tier local police have been deployed in large numbers. They will work in shifts round-the-clock.
Officials from the Fire and Rescue Services department were also kept in readiness.
