BJP challenges Virbhadra for open debate on development
The Himachal Pradesh Unit of the BJP has challenged Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for an open debate on the issue of development and achievement of the government in the past 16 months of rule in the state.
In a statement here today, BJP State President Sat Pal Singh Satti said Mr Singh is lamenting on the dismissal of his government in his public speeches after the BJP-led NDA came to power after general elections instead of harping on the fulfillment of his election promises and achievements.
"The foremost promise was controlling inflation. Every body feels the pinch of inflation. The prices of all essential commodities have sky rocketed. Even the subsidies of the domestic gas have been usurped by the respective governments. The subsidized ration has vanished from the ration depots forcing the common man to purchase the ration at a higher price, he said and asked the Chief Minister that he should apologize for this criminal lapse.
He said Mr Virbhadra Singh should talk about the beneficiaries under the Rajiv Gandhi Annyojna for the BPL as a hollow scheme of the state government was started by him.
Mr Virbhadra Singh should also certify the number of youth benefitting from the much hyped Unemployment Allowance to the youth of Himachal Pradesh, he said and asked him to explain to the public why this unemployment allowance was changed to the Skill Development Allowance.
The BJP President also said in fact the Chief Minister should inform the public of one good step taken to alleviate the plight of the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
The BJP leader said on the other hand the Chief Minister has done nothing excepting giving employment to tired and retired employees instead of creating job opportunities for the youth and added that he should also explain the steps taken by him to curb corruption in the state.
