Police resorts to lathi-charge on BJP workers in Uttar Pradesh
A number of BJP workers were injured after police resorted to lathicharge to quell them during their protest to demand re-polling in this Uttar Pradesh district last night.
A group of BJP workers, including party candidate from Firozabad Lok Sabha seat Prof S P Singh Baghel, started their agitation near Subhash crossing after yesterday's polling.
They alleged that voting at several places in this constituency was influenced, besides there were incidents of booth capturing at some places.
A number of BJP activists were injured at the police action.
The protestors in return, pelted stones upon the police team and also torched their vehicle.
Soon after the conclusion of voting, the BJP candidate alleged that the Samajwadi Party workers in association with the district administration did booth capturing at 244 centres.
Meanwhile, BJP state unit president Laxmikant Vajpayee has demanded probe into the matter from the Election Commission.
Earlier on April 21, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had conveyed his apprehension about influential polling and booth capturing to the Election Commission at this seat.
