A religious school for women in Islamabad connected to the Lal Masjid has renamed its library in honour of slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Jamia Hafsa is run by controversial hard-line cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, the imam of the city's Lal Masjid, once infamous as a hideout for hardliners with alleged militant links.

According to Dawn News, the seminary connected to it has named its small library, stocking Islamic texts, in honour of Osama, masterminded the 9/11 attacks in the United States.

A source said that the library's name was kept after Osama because for them he was a hero of Islam.

A small printed sign stuck over the library door gives bin Laden's name and refers to him as a 'martyr,' the report added.
