The Samajwadi Party on Friday appealed to the Election Commission to reconsider its decision to lift the ban on BJP general secretary Amit Shah in connection with a poll code violation during public meetings in Uttar Pradesh.

It also asked the EC to lift the ban on senior SP leader Azam Khan.

SP leader Naresh Agarwal accused the EC of not acting impartially.

He said the poll body is under the pressure of the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Modi.

The ban on Shah was lifted on Thursday after an EC censure. Shah gave undertaking that he wouldn't disturb public order and tranquillity.
