Militants gun down Sarpanch in Jammu and Kashmir
Militants on Thursday night shot dead opposition Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Sarpanch at Awantipora area in South Kashmir's Pulwama district late Thursday evening, a police officer said on Friday.
He said that suspected militants fired at Mohammad Amin Pandit, son of Abdul Ahad Pandit and a resident of Gulzarpora, outside his residence at around 9:30 pm.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the suspected militants.
