The burning fishermen issue has taken a centrestage in the Lok Sabha election campaign trial, with BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today hitting back at his bête noire AICC chief Sonia Gandhi for 'spreading untruths that Congress is working for fishermen, while in reality fishermen were constantly troubled by the neighbouring countries.'

"Sonia Gandhi came here (Kanyakumari) yesterday and said the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre works for safety of fishermen. Do you (people) believe that ?," asked Modi while addressing the 'Bharat Vijay Rally' in support of NDA candidates.

Mr Modi charged the UPA Government with failing to protect the interests of fishermen and their livelihood.

"Congress will have to pay for their sins and the people will not forgive them," he said.

"We have decided for a paradigm shift in thinking about interests of our fishermen," said Modi.
