BJP Prime Ministerial candidate and party's star campaigner Narendra Modi today said 'the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will link Ganga and Cauvery rivers if elected to power, to address the drinking water problems and irrigation requirements of Tamil Nadu.'

Addressing his first-ever election rally in Ramanathapuram, Modi played up former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's pet project of interlinking rivers in the country.

"When Mr Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, he initiated a project to interlink rivers to solve the problems of flooding and drinking water scarcity in the country. The interlinking of rivers is necessary to improve the lives of our people. I assure you (people) that if the NDA was elected to power, we will link Ganga and Cauvery rivers," he added.
