The Tiruchirapalli division of the Southern Railway has maintained 91.1 per cent punctuality during the year 2013-14, as against the last year's achievement of 83.5 per cent, the best ever by the division, despite the increase in the number of trains operated, according to Divisional Railway Manager Manjula Rangarajan.

In a press release here today, she said the Division was basically passenger-oriented and was also considered as pilgrims paradise as it has innumerable pilgrim centres well connected by the railways here.

She said in the last three years, the division has also performed commendably in freight operations with the highest-ever volume of 9.675 million tonnes in 2013-14. This division is becoming an all-round passenger and freight division, she claimed.

She also informed that the overall earnings of the division has increased by 1.5 per cent from Rs 755.72 crore to Rs 767.59 crore during 2013-14.
