Popular Kollywood actor Vijay will be calling on BJP's prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at Coimbatore later this evening.

Sources close to the actor said, Vijay was supposed to call on Mr Modi during the latter's visit to Chennai last Sunday.

However, since the actor was busy with his shoot, he could not meet him.

"So now when Mr Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu to campaign for BJP-led NDA candidates in different parts of the state from today, Vijay is using the opportunity to meet him at Coimbatore", sources said.

Vijay had campaigned for AIADMK in the last Assembly elections.

The meeting Modi assumes significance as it comes in the backdrop of Tamil superstar Rajnikanth and Mr Modi having had a tete-a-tete at the former's house at Poes Garden last week.

After the meeting Rajnikanth, who has a huge fan following, had said, "Mr Modi is a strong leader and an able administrator. I pray that his dreams come true".

Like Rajnikanth, Vijay too has a significant fan following in Tamil Nadu.

During his visit to the state, Mr Modi was expected to address election meetings in Erode, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore, Salem, Kanniyakumari and Ramanathapuram.
