Condemning the incident of detaining a student for more than 27 hours on false charges in an office of the security wing of the Pondicherry University, Prof (Retd) Dr Ramadass urged the Vice-Chancellor to dismiss the professors involved in the incident and make a thorough inquiry into the incident.

In a statement, Dr Ramadass, who is contesting the polls for Puducherry Lok Sabha seat as an independent, said even if the student committed the act of entering the women's hostel during odd hours, the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar should have probed the incident and took action against the students instead of the investigation conducted by two professors and security officers.

The former Member of Parliament alleged that Prof Hariharan, against whom the CBI has sought the Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor's permission to prosecute with regard to a case of affiliation, was interfering with all matters of the University.

The police has filed case under Sections 323, 324, 295, 342 of IPC against the persons, but were yet to submit themselves before the law enforcement authorities, Dr Ramadass said and alleged that the persons who should be kept away from gaining access to the office of the VC, were interfering with the affairs of the university.

The agitating students, meanwhile, said they would wait till Tuesday for the University's decision on action against the professors and security officials involved in the detention and torture of a student. Students said they will decide on their course of action after it.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order), Omvir Singh Bishnoi and Superintendent of Police (North), Preveen Kumar Tripathy visited the residence of Prof Hariharan and the car allegedly damaged by agitating students

Tamil Department student Radhakrishnan was allegedly detained by Head of the Academic Staff College and dean-in-charge, Prof Hariharan and Prof Bhushan Sudhagar and security officials Shyam and Gunasekaran for more than a day charging that he had entered the women hostel at odd hours and when challenged, threw chilli powder at women security personnel.

Radhakrishnan was allegedly tortured during his detention. However, the student was exonerated by the disciplinary panel. Kalapet police filed cases against Professors and the security officers. Cases were filed against unnamed students for damaging the house and car of Prof Hariharan.
