Demand for suspension of Pondicherry university staff
Former Director of the Pondicherry Central University and independent candidate for the April 24 Lok Sabha Elections from Puducherry constituency, Prof M Ramadass, today demanded Dr Hariharan, a university staff who assaulted a student on mistaken identity, be suspended immediately and action be initiated against him.
In a statement here today,Prof Ramadass said Tamil PG student Radhakrishnan was allegedly detained for 27 hours and assaulted after his hands and legs were tied on charges that he had entered the girl's hostel of the university.
He said even if Radhakrishnan had entered the girls' hostel, the vice-chancellor should have initiated action and Dr Hariharan, claiming to be a relative of the VC, had no right to intervene or assault the student.
Moreover, the VC is protecting Prof Hariharan from a CBI case, he charged.
Prof Ramadass said proper action by the VC after suspending Hariharan will help impartial enquiry into the incident.
Radhakrishnan was let off after it was proven through a CCTV footage that he was at the university library at the time a person covering his face entered the girl's hostel.
