The Tamil New Year Day was today celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm by the people in this union territory.


Clad in new dresses, long queues were seen in front of several temples, including the famous Manakkula Vinayagar temple and the Panchamukha Anjaneyar temple at Panchavadi near here.

Special poojas were performed in all the temples and a special 'Abishegam' was performed for the 32-ft tall Anjaneyar idol at the Panchavadi temple to mark the occasion.

Minister of state for Prime Minister's Office V Narayansami, Lt Governor Virendra Kataria, Chief Minister N Rangasamy and leaders of different political parties among others greeted the people on the occasion.
