Sunanda death: BJP wants Tharoor to quit
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women's wing on Friday demanded the resignation of Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi Tharoor over the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
The BJP women activists on Friday hosted a protest march to Tharoor's residence at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the death of Pushkar was transferred to the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police on Thursday, reports said.
The move came as the case is treated to be a complex one.
Earlier, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)'s preliminary inquiry report said Pushkar died of poisoning.
Pushkar's son Shiv Menon has said that his mother's death was not a case of suicide or murder.
"Feel devastated by media reports. Any one who knew my mother would simply know that she was too strong to commit suicide. Do not believe that Shashi was capable of harming her let alone the speculation that he could have taken her life," Menon said in a statement.
"It was an unfortunate combination of media stress, tensions and a wrong mix of different medications. Sunanda's death was peaceful, she passed in her sleep," he said.
The autopsy report of Pushkar has cited drug overdose as the cause of her death, media reports said on Monday.
The autopsy of Pushkar was carried out by a three-member panel of doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Jan 18.
The doctors on Monday submitted the autopsy report to the SDM here.
Pushkar was found dead at Leela Palace Hotel on Jan 17, fuelling speculations on the cause of her demise since the couple (Tharoor and she) was caught in a controversy over their "hacked" Twitter account and some tweets that involved a Pakistani woman journalist, Mehr Tarar, linked to Tharoor romantically.
Kashmir born Sunanda Pushkar was 52. She was a sales director in the Dubai-based TECOM Investments, and a co-owner of Rendezvous Sports World. She had last tweeted to an acquaintance that she was sick and if she died she would go from the world smiling.
