Decks cleared for East Tripura polling
Polling parties are prepared for elections tomorrow in East Tripura tribal reserved parliamentary constituency across all 1,490 booths to decide the fate of 12 candidates including two independent women candidates.
According to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal, besides sufficient deployment of central paramilitary forces, Election Commission (EC) has made all out effort to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling for 11,38,765 electorates. The EC has catagorised as many as 18 booths as hyper-sensitive and 275 as sensitive where extra security measures have been taken to conduct peaceful election.
The 48th booth in Malirai Roaja Para Junior Basic School under 46 Surma assembly constituency has appeared to be lowest electorates' booth with 89 votes while 21st booth in Metharai Reang Bari High School under 29 Krishnapur assembly constituency is having the maximum electorates with 1,323 voters.
The entire northern and eastern stretches of Indo-Bangla border have been sealed as part of the pre-emptive precautionary measure ahead of polling and additional security forces were also deployed in the bordering areas of Mizoram.
EC for the first time banned entry of embossed colour or symbol on dress of candidates of party in the polling booths and issued directives to security personnel for adhering to the direction.
Polling in East Tripura seat would be held tomorrow between 0700 and 1700 hrs.
