Goa police arrested a boy from Karnataka and girl from Maharashtra involved in snatching bags from foreign tourists on the coastal belt in the state.

North Goa SP Prianka Kasyap said, John Rodriques (20) from Karwar and Diyna Chavan (21) from Maharastra were arrested yesterday at Pernem in north Goa in connection with three recent bag snatching cases at Anjuna, and two at Pernem. Both became friends three months back after meeting each other on the social networking site facebook they later met in Goa and hatched a plot as they wanted money started snatching bags and later married.

The couple was mainly targeting foreign tourists, the modus operandi was that the girl would be riding a Bike and boy was a pillion rider along the coastal belt. On seeing foreign tourists they slowed down the bike and the boy would snatch the bags before zooming off their two-wheeler.

After getting information on Karnataka register two wheeler number, one foreigner clicked the photograph and forwarded it to the police.

Police kept a close watch on the couple and both were traced in Pernem. The police arrested the duo on a bike and recovered two cameras and a mobile from accused worth Rs 2 lakh. The accused had snatched the bags belonging to Ukranians and British.

Police said, both have confessed of snatching foreingers bags, after snatching the bags the couple would leave the state and stay at Karwar for few days and return back to Goa to look out for their next victim.

Police feel the gang is professional and more professional are suspects in the gang.

Police also said, the missing complaint of the girl had also been lodged at the Vikhroli police station in Mumbai, two months ago.

The girl was studying in third year before she took to crime.
