Delhi records 64 percent voting, Kerala leads with 73.4 percent
The Election Commission officials on Thursday announced the poll percentage of the states that went for polling today, with Kerala, Haryana and Chandigarh witnessing one of the highest poll percentages of 73.4 percent, 73 per cent and 72 per cent respectively.
Over 64 per cent of 1.27 crore eligible voters exercised their franchise till 6 pm in the capital and the polling percentage is likely to go up.
In 2009, the overall voting percentage in Delhi was recorded at 52.3 per cent marking an increase of 12 percent.
The voting percentage in Chandni Chowk was 65.1 whereas in northeast Delhi it was 66.6. East Delhi recorded 64 percent, New Delhi 65.9 percent, northwest Delhi 61.2 percent, west Delhi 64.4 percent and south Delhi recorded 63 percent.
In Uttar Pradesh the overall poll percentage was 65 percent. Saharanpur witnessed 56.40 per cent polling while 56.68 per cent voting was reported from Kairana, and 54.98 per cent in Muzaffarnagar till 3 pm.
Poll percentage in Jammu and Kashmir was recorded as 66. 29 percent. Jammu recorded a total of 65.27 percent, Sambha 70. 21percent, Rajouri 59.58 percent and Poonch 57 percent.
Over five million people voted in nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The overall poll percentage recorded was 55.98 percent, and is likely to go upto 60 percent.
Chhindwara constituency saw a voter turnout of 56.84 percent and Shahdol too saw a healthy turnout. In Sidhi 37.86 percent voters turned up to cast their vote.
In Maharashtra the voter turnout was recorded as 54.13 percent and is likely to reach 58 percent.
Odisha recorded a poll percentage of 58 which was 73 percent in Haryana, 50.36 percent in Bihar, 71 percent in Lakshwadeep, 58.3 percent in Jharkhand.
