A large number of Mahila Congress workers today staged protests against the 'injustice' meted out to them in the allotment of party tickets to contest in the upcoming general elections.

They conducted the dharnas in front of the imposing Gandhi Bhavan, the state party headquarters, and the residence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Ponnala Laskhmiah.

The protests near Mr Lakshmiah's residence was led by former union minister Renuka Choudhary who charged that besides women, the party did not do justice to STs in seat allotment. She was hoping that the party would name her for the Khammam Lok sabha seat.

Another mahila Congress leader Akula Lalita vociferated that only at public meetings the party leaders talk about empowering and bettering the lot of women but in reality precious little was done for women. She demanded that the Rajendranagar assembly seat should be alloted to her.

Meanwhile, party sources indicated that the candidates in atleast three assembly constituencies including Secunderabad cantonment may be changed.
