Special poojas, performance of marriage of the divine couple - Rama and Seeta - in tastefully decorated temples and taking out of shobha yatras marked the celebration of Sri Ramanavami in Andhra Pradesh today.

More than a lakh people including women and children from different parts of the country thronged the sprawling Bhadradri temple complex braving the oppressive summer heat.

The temple authorities made elaborate arrangements for the benefit of pilgrim and the authorities also prepared two lakh laddus for distribution among the pilgrims.

The traditional 'thalambralu and pattuvastralu' (pearls and silk clothes) which are normally presented by the chief minister on behalf of the state government was this time offered by Governor E S L Narasimhan as the state was under President's Rule.

At several places in the state capital, shobha yatras were taken out to mark the occasion with the police imposing traffic restrictions in many areas to enable smooth passage of the shobha yatras.
