Pinarayi Vijayan demands resignation of Home Minister Chennithala
Kerala CPI(M) Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today demanded that State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala resign from the post and the government conduct a comprehensive inquiry into alleged links of Congress leaders with international gold smuggler Fayaz.
Speaking at a meet the press programme at Press Club here, he alleged that KPCC president V M Sudheeran had maintained silence on the issue.
Mr Vijayan alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the then Leader of the Opposition in Kerala Assembly had spent about one hour with Fayaz, after cutting short the journey at Thalassery while his visit to Kannur district.
Mr Vijayan said the photographs of former KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and party spokesman M M Hassan along with Fayaz published in some media clearly proved the links of the party with the person.
Statement of Abdulla, one of the close associate of Fayaz, that Fayaz had treated the Congress leaders at guest was a solid evidence against the leaders about the links, he claimed.
Mr Vijayan demanded that Congress leaders clarify what was the reason to contact Fayaz in Gulf country. To a question, Mr Vijayan said no CPI(M) leader had link with Fayaz.
Party suspected that a video clipping showing Fayaz, wearing Arabi dress visiting Kozhikode Jail, was a deliberated move to tarnish image of the party.
Some media had reported that Fayaz had reached the jail to visit the accused involved in T P Chandrasekharan murder case, he said.
