The Election Commission today rejected 3 nominations- Nilgiris (Reserved) BJP candidate Gurumoorthy, AAP candidate Rani and Chidambaram (Reserved) PMK candidate Manirathnam for the April 24 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. The scrutiny of papers began today.

The Electoral Officer in Chidamabaram, Saravana Kumar, rejected the papers of Manirathinam, since his nomination lacked required documents, his wife Sudha had filed as 'dummy' candidate from Chidambaram.

There was confusion over accepting her papers as she had not furnished the required letter that she had relinquished the post of Nattramangalam Panchayat president that she was holding till now. She was given time till this evening to produce the same. BJP candidate for Nilgiris, Gurumoorthy's, papers were rejected.

According to poll officials, delay in filing the nomination papers was the reason for rejection.

Thanjkavur AAP candidate Kuzhandhaivel's papers were rejected as he did not follow the norms of the Election Commission. He was proposed by a set of ten people, who don't belong' to the constituency. Hence, his papers were disqualified.
