DMK state convener Dr MAS Subramanian today criticised Chief Minister N Rangasamy for failing to maintain law and order situation and asked him to divest himself of the home portfolio, which he was handling.

In a statement here, he said the latest incident of the murder of a pawn broker in a busy area pointed to inability to arrest the deteriorating law and order situation. He said the criminals snatched chains from women even during day time and when they tried to defend, they were attacked. Rowdies lodged in jail threatened businessmen asking for mamool using cell phone and police did not act effectively to contain the activities of the anti-social elements.

The DMK leader said the police were yet to come out with details of kidnapping of a boy by unknown persons for ransom. Claiming that the people were living in fear, he said the CM did not convene a meeting of the top police officials to discuss the situation arising out of the murder of pawn broker. He alleged that the police officials were also not acting enough to trace the culprits.

Dr Subramanian alleged that Union Minister V Narayansamy would threaten the state government saying that a Central team would be sent, but no further steps were taken by him and hence the people should reject both the Congress and AINRC candidates in the forthcoming elections and teach them a lesson for not acting to protect the people.
