Police today registered two cases against TR Pachamuthu, founder of India Jananayaga Katchi, who is contesting from this Lok Sabha constituency, for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Police said based on a complaint from Revenue Inspector Saravanan that Mr Pachamuthu had released the party's manifesto and undertaken a campaign inside the Collectorate's campus, when he came for filing his nomination yesterday, for which a case was registered.

Another case was registered as Mr Pachamuthu as he came with 63 cars and 28 two-wheelers and held a procession while on his way to the Collectorate's, which was against the Election Commission's rules that the candidate could use only five vehicles.

The convoy of cars had disrupted traffic in the town, police added.
