With April 17 polling in Karnataka approaching fast, campaigning in the one of the high profile Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency is picking up with film stars and literary personalities besides national leaders trying to woo the voters.

The city, coming under the segment, will witness a 'tug-of-war' between BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi in the next few days at historic Maharaja's College grounds.

While Mr Modi is scheduled to address a rally on April 8, Ms Gandhi will address a rally on April 9 at the same venue. Poll activities have picked up momentum though the customary announcements through loudspeakers is absent, much to the relief of public. Sitting Ccongress member A H Vishwanath is now fighting against right leaning journalist turned politician Pratap Simha in a direct fight.

The constituency saw film star Jaimala wooing college students on Saturday. Literary figures K Marulasiddappa, S G Siddaramaiah, G K Govinda Rao, and Mavalli Shankar have also hit the campaign trail. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has campaigned in the constituency as he has waged high stakes winning in home segment, is one of the party's star campaigners.

Leaders, including Janata Dal(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, BJP leaders B S Yeddyurappa, Sadananda Gowda and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, have also toured the constituency several times.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had visited Mysore during his much-publicised roadshow in February. Not withstanding the presence of high-profile star campaigners, the candidates prefer padayatras to woo voters. Both the Congress and BJP are also making appeal through social media. But what Mysore is missing is the royal sheen that was last seen in the 2004 parliamentary elections when the scion of the royal family and former MP Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, who passed away recently, was in the fray.

He used to lead a cavalcade on the rural areas in Mysore district including H D Kote and others.
