Three people, including a six-month-old baby, were killed and nine others, including two women, were injured in two different road accidents in Ariyalur and Tiruchirapalli districts of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said three persons, including a six month old female infant, were killed and three others, including two women, were injured when the car in which they were travelling collided head on with a Tamil Nadu State transport Corporation's (TNSTC) city bus at Keelapalur on the Ariyalur-Tiruchirapalli Highway near here today.

The deceased were identified as Rajaram an employee of a private cement factory at Keelapalur, Padmanabhan and the six month old female infant, hailing from Karur.

The Injured Mrs Janaki, Mrs Lakhshmi, and Ramakrishnan were admitted to aprivate hospital at Tiruchirapalli, police added.

In another accident six police personnel including a Inspector of Police attached to Mayiladuthurai Police Station in Nagapattinam district were injured when a police car in which they were travelling overturned on the railway over bridge at suburb Ariyamangalam on the Tiruchirapalli-Thanjavur National Highway near Tiruchirapalli today.

The injured policemen, including Mr Somasundaram, were on their way to Tiruchirapalli city to secure a accused in connection with a criminal case when the accident occurred.

The sudden burst of one of the front tyre of their vehcle was said to be the reason behind the accident.

All the injured were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital at Tiruchirapalli, police said.
