Chidambaram flays Jayalalithaa over 'UPA performance' remark
Senior Congress leader and Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today took strong exception to the AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for her reported allegations that the ten-year-old Congress-led UPA government at the centre did not do anything for the people.
Addressing a electioneering meeting in favour of his son and Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency Congress candidate Karti Chidambaram, at Arimalam near here today, Mr Chidambaram pointed out that he listed out his achievements as well the UPA Government at the centre for the last 10 years whenever he got an opportunity, and despite this, Ms Jayalalithaa claims so. He said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance which is having lot of misunderstandings with its constituents, did not form the Government at the centre under any circumstances. He pointed out that only after 32 years a politician from Tamil Nadu became the union finance minister and only after 65 years, a politician from Tamil Nadu became Union Home minister, that during the Congress rule. If once again the Tamil Nadu the people want politicians from their state to get such high posts at the Union Government, they have to vote for Congress, he added.
He said both the DMK and the AIADMK did neither form the Government at the Centre nor get the cabinet berths without having alliance with the national parties.
He wanted that the people should vote for Congress in order to continuation of the Mahatma Gandhi rural employment guarantee scheme, Food security scheme, reservation and other centrally sponsored schemes.
