Deoband rejects Shahi Imam's appeal to support Congress
The muslim clerics, ulemas and intellectuals of Deoband sect of Muslims today discarded the appeal of Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid to support the Congress and asked the people to use in their discretion while voting.
The Muslims were asked to ignore the appeal of Syed Ahmad Bukhari and appealed the community to retrain from voting any particular party or candidate and instead use their discretion to do the tactical voting to elect secular party and secular candidate.
One section supports the Samajwadi Party candidate while the other is in the favour of BSP candidate where he or she could defeat the BJP ,which is considered as communal.
Talking to UNI, the chief strategist of Mahmood Madi-led social and religious organisation of Deobandi muslims Jamiat Ulema--e-hind Maulana Niaz Ahmad Farooqui said his organisation would not like to attach any importance to Shahi Imam's appeal.
"We are not happy with the Congress and SP, as its role in Muzaffarnagar riots had left much to be desired while the BJP is always considered as communal," he pointed out adding " the only alternative is left to support any Hindu or Muslim candidate with clean and secular image."
Mufti Abul Kasim Nomani, the rector of revered islamic institution Darul Uloom, Deoband also dissassociates with the Shahi Imam's appeal saying Darul Uloom has nothing to do with the electoral politics.
