Elephant captured in Karnataka
The district forest department, which continued 'Operation Elephant' had succeeded in capturing a 28-year-old tusker near Magalu in Sakeleshpour Taluk of this district.
With this, the total number of elephants captured by the department since November 2013 has increased to 12.
The elephant, which was seen in a farm, was tranquilized. Veterinarians and sharpshooters assisted the staff in the operation which was supervised by Deputy Conservator of Forests Ganesh Bhat.
The department had secured permission from the Karantaka High Court to capture 25 elephants in the forests of Alur and Sakaleshpur Taluks, which have been causing huge loss to property, including crops besides taken human lives.
There was a demand from the people of this region to solve elephant-man conflict.
The captured elephant was shifted to Mathigodu Elephant Camp, sources said here today.
