ISI agent's accomplice arrested in Ahmedabad
The Ahmedabad police have arrested an accomplice of an agent of Pakistani intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence from Lal Darwaja area of the city.
Crime Branch DCP Himanshu Shukla today said police had received a tip-off that Salim Yakub Kara, who was absconding after jumping parole for last few years, was to visit Lal Darwaja area of the city last evening.
Police spotted him in a car and detained him. After detailed interrogation, he was arrested.
According to police, Salim, who hails from Jam Khambhalia in Saurashtra, had joined his father's smuggling business at the age of 16.
He used to smuggle watches, electronic goods and silver from Dubai. He was arrested in 1994 under Arms Act in Dwarika.
Salim was also arrested in 1997 from Jamnagar in connection with a counterfeit currency racket run by Mohammad Zafar Sodha, an alleged agent of the ISI.
Salim was arrested in currency racket in 1999 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison but he jumped parole after some time and he was absconding since then.
