BJP worker's immolation bid protesting tickets to defectors
A high drama was witnessed at the BJP East Godavari district office today when one senior party leader tried to immolate himself while protesting the admittance of defectors into the party and the proposed alliance with the Telugu Desam Party.
Party city unit joint secretary Kuchimanchi Venugopal tried to immolate himself by dousing kerosene and denounced the party leadership for the reported allotment of Pithapuram and Razole Assembly seats to the sitting Congress MLAs -- who were admitted to BJP overnight.
However, other party workers foiled the immolation bid by overpowering him and pouring water on him. Party seniors including Karri Chittibabu, Bandaru Bhaskar, have raised the issue before the core committee questioning the propriety in admitting Congress sitting MLAs into the party and giving them the ticket.
They also opposed the move to forge alliance with the TDP and wanted the party leadership to fight the elections alone. Some of the leaders even expressed dissent against the party district president Y Suryanarayana Raju for reportedly agreeing to admitting Vanga Geeta and Repaka Varaprasad sitting Congress MLAs of Pithapuram and Razole respectively into the party and fielding them again.
They demanded that the loyal party workers should be given tickets instead of joining hands with TDP. Party core committee member Pydah Krishna Mohan intervened and pacified the agitated members saying that he had already convened the feelings of the district party members against giving tickets to defectors.
He also told them that state party was yet to decide on the issue of admitting Vanga Geeta and Repaka Varaprasad into the party.
Krishnamohan told media persons that party leadership was seized of the seriousness of the problem and hoped that it would respect the party workers sentiments. Party core committee members Pydah Bhavana Prasad, Y Malakondaiah, Manepalli Ayyaji Vema and Bikkina Visweswerarao were among those present.
