Former MLA Kali Ram died when a goods train ran over him near Paharpur station in this district of Bihar today.

Police said here that Ram was crossing the tracks near Paharpur rail station when the goods train hit him. He died on the spot.

The body had been sent for post-mortem, police said adding that Ram had represented Bodhgaya in 1977 as an MLA of the Jansangh Party.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed profound grief over the death of Ram and described the incident as a great loss to the social and political horizon of Bihar. During his long political career, Ram always struggled for the uplift of the oppressed and weaker sections of the society, he noted.
