Cong leader house torched in Meghalaya
A guest house belonging to a Congress leader in Meghalaya was torched by miscreants, police said today.
The guest house at Saiden village near Nongpoh was owned by Umsning Youth Congress Committee general secretary M G Kharshanlor.
The guest house, used for election purposes by the party in the area, was reduced to ashes with all the properties inside totally damaged.
Speaking to this reporter, Mr Kharshanlor said the guest house was torched by miscreants who fled away after committing the crime. ''I suspect it to be some miscreants' handiwork since there was no sign of electric short circuit or even forest fire,'' he said.
He also said that miscreants may have targeted the house as it was the hub of Congress election campaigns for the Lok Sabha polls.
An FIR with Nongpoh police has been filed in connection
with the alleged arson.
Mr Kharshanlor is an active leader of Congress who backed Vincent H Pala in this Lok Sabha election.
He is also the vice chairman of Meghalaya Resource Mobilisation Commission.
