As a part of the Election Commission (EC) drive to stem the distribution of liguor during election campaign, the police seized illicit liquor worth Rs 77 lakh from two trucks in two different places in Kutch region yesterday.


The police searched a truck in Godhra village of Mandvi taluka yesterday and seized illegal liquor worth Rs 31 lakh in domestic market.

One person was arrested from the truck while the driver managed to flee the scene.

The State Monitoring Cell of the EC raided a truck at Samkhiyali village of Bhachau taluka last evening and seized illegal liquor worth Rs 46 lakh.

In this case, the driver and the cleaner both managed to escape.

The police and the State Monitoring Cell have mounted an intensive campaign against the trafficking of the illegal liquor in the state ahead of Lok Sabha polls later this month.
