Ramadass seeks votes
Prof Ramadass, the Former Lok Sabha member from Puducherry constituency who surprisingly jumped into the electoral fray here, today exhorted the people to elect him to secure full statehood status for the union territory.
Talking to newspersons here, Prof Ramadass said the union territory was reeling under severe financial crisis and hence, schemes could not be implemented. The policy decisions of the union government led to this state of affair here, he said adding the allocation under non-plan had been reduced to 30 per cent.
The Finance Commission had instructed not to provide loans to the states/union terriotories which had opened public account.
Presently, Puducherry owed a loan of Rs 5600 crore to the Centre for which an interest of Rs 500 crore was being paid annually.
Until and unless this loan issue is sorted out, none of the schemes could be implemented here and the subsequent governments failed to press and obtain statehood, he said.
He also blamed Union Minister V Narayansamy and Chief Minister N Rangasamy for pushing Puducherry to the present situation.
